was going by bicycle to buy few shopping item lists. It was usually a very short distance that I travel and never found it to be difficult. Since there was rain yesterday night, I could find the roads are full of muddy water and could not see the road correctly. It seems my bicycle went on a sharp object and ended up punctured. I could not move my bicycle further and ended up walking to the shop and came back. When I came back, I thought about a business call with a business owner and reached home with that thought.
After getting home, I had a call with that business owner. After this call, I could understand that my philosophy does not align well with the business owner. So I said I would think about his proposal and cut the call. Often we come across a scenario where our business philosophy, values, and results do not align with our customers. This article will go through three parts that the business should consider as its core being.
1. Philosophy
2. Value
3. Results
Let’s start with the first part – Philosophy
When the bicycle got punctured, I could not make a move on my bike. We can represent our philosophy similar to bicycle wheels. Without our Philosophy, we cannot move further. Our philosophy is our inner belief and core part of us. We can have as many philosophies as we want, but usually, one philosophy takes precedence. This philosophy is the representation of the business as similar to the bicycle wheels.
For example, If our philosophy is spending time with family and doing business, it is our core part of the business. When we set out to say something, then we act on it. Our philosophy does not change over time, regardless of our situation. We cannot have duality aligned as part of our philosophy. Often when a business owner says something but does the opposite side of his own words. When this happens, we have set out to puncture our wheel and end up not moving. Now, Let’s go through the second part.
How do we represent our value
When we have the philosophy, we are internally aligned. But our customers will not see our philosophy. We set out to define a value for our customers. Our values are our rules, and we never over commit or cross the line. When a customer asks us to work over the weekend and late nights, we make a rule of saying “NO” to them because it is our rules and values. When a customer sees our value and respects our values, he or she will work with us. Else we depart politely and say hearty wishes. As part of this, we end up losing money and clients. But, hey, this is our values and our rules. We set out to respect it and follow it for our own life.
For example, When you are riding a bicycle, there is a peddle. What happens when you lose energy, but you are asked to go 1000 km. You cannot even peddle one time when you are drained out of your energy. Hence you are supposed to use the peddle when you have the energy, and the remaining time it should be idle. A business owner has a choice of working hard and ends up losing all his energy or keep it and pedal consistently for providing more outstanding results. Let’s go through the third part of the article.
How to provide our results
Let’s say we are carrying our customers on our bicycles. Our customer would ask us to take us from Point A to Point B. We will give our customers a great experience of riding this bicycle, and safely and securely, we will take them from point A to point B. When we take our customers, they don’t see our philosophy and values. But they experience the journey through our wheels and the way we peddle. They cannot understand the inner working of philosophy and values, but the results’ quality will represent our philosophy and values.
They experience great riding because of our bicycle wheels and peddling, representing our philosophy and value. When a customer asks us to take A to B to C, we can do the same and give the same experience. As soon as our philosophy and values aligned, we can provide as many journeys as our customer wants. The results will have great consistency, as well. Let’s go through the summary.
Summary
When we say what we do, it becomes our philosophy. Whatever we set out to do with great conviction and action, it becomes our philosophy. We define our values for our efforts and provide the values to customers as well. Our values are ours, and we never need to justify this value to anyone since it is part of our philosophy. We provide the results with our philosophy and values and move our customers from point A, where they are, to Point B, where they want to bel. We can run our business with great consistency when we set to run with philosophy, values, and providing excellent results.
